Maternity and Childcare leave
In Singapore, maternity and childcare leave are regulated under Part IX of the employment act.
Maternity leave
An employee who has been employed for more than 3 months is eligible for a maternity leave, following the rules below:
Child | Maternity leave |
If the child is a Singapore Citizen | 16 weeks of Government-Paid Maternity Leave (first 8 weeks paid by the employer, last 8 weeks reimbursed by government) |
If the child is not a Singapore Citizen | 12 weeks of maternity leave (first 8 weeks paid by the employer, last 4 weeks unpaid or depending on contract) |
Childcare leave
An employee is elegible for a childcare leave if he/she:
- has been employed for more than 3 months and
- whose youngest child is below 7 years old.
Child | Childcare leave |
If the child is a Singapore Citizen | 6 days of paid Childcare Leave (first 3 days paid by employer, last 3 days reimbursed by government) |
If the child is not a Singapore Citizen | 2 days of paid Childcare Leave (paid by employer) |
