Sick Leave

In Singapore, statutory sick leave is regulated under Part IV of the employment act.

Who is eligible for a paid sick leave?

  • An employee under Part IV of the employment act.
  • An employee who has certified by a medical practitioner (i.e. who has a medical certificate)

Entitlement

  • An employee must have worked for at least 3 months to be entitled to paid sick leave or paid hospitalisation leave
  • The number of days of paid sick leave an employee is entitled to depends on the period of service, up to 14 days for paid outpatient sick leave and 60 days for paid hospitalisation leave. The 60 days of paid hospitalisation leave includes the 14 days paid outpatient sick leave entitlement

Length of Service

Entitlement

At least 6 months

• 14 days of sick leave per year

• 60 days of hospitalisation leave (inclusive of the 14 days of sick leave)

5-6 months

• 11 days of sick leave per year

• 45 days of hospitalisation leave (inclusive of the 11 days of sick leave)

4-5 months

• 8 days of sick leave per year

• 30 days of hospitalisation leave (inclusive of the 8 days of sick leave)

3-4 months

• 5 days of sick leave per year

• 15 days of hospitalisation leave (inclusive of the 5 days of sick leave)
